Maiori

The setting chosen by the great director Roberto Rossellini for the film Paisà (1946), Maiori is a charming little town in the province of Salerno, best known for the Sentiero dei Limoni (Lemon Path): a suggestive itinerary that leads to nearby Minori with a walk along the Amalfi Coast's typical, fragrant lemon pergolas.

Walking along the seafront, you will see the imposing Torre Normanna, built in the 16th century and now home to a renowned estaurant, overlooking the crystal-clear sea of the Amalfi Coast's longest beach. A destination for many visitors, Maiori's main beach stretches for almost a kilometre with a variety of accommodation facilities and a romantic seafront promenade, ideal for lovers and anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of the Coast.

Other well-known beaches include the sandy and rocky Salicerchie, the wild cove of Cauco, accessible only by sea, and the unspoilt beach of Sovrano - known as 'Lo Sgarrupo', or the 'cliff'. As the name suggests, it is not easy to access, but any effort is absolutely repaid by the sight of this little corner of paradise.

The town of Maiori is also known for its typical religious architecture: it is home to the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria a Mare, the main religious building in the area, which dates back to the 13th century and houses the remains of San Clemente. Then there is the Sanctuary of the Avvocata, which stands on the summit of Mount Falesia and dominates the Amalfi Coast from above. It can be reached on foot, following a long path, a symbol of man's journey towards salvation. Be charmed by Maiori and all the pearls of the Amalfi Coast.
